I have had one set of VHO for over 9+ yrs but today I have a second set coming in and I`m going to run the double set. I`ve been limited to Soft corals and LPS corals and wonder if there is a chance for some of the SPS corals. You can see a pic of my tank by clicking on my sig. I have a 125 gallon tank and that will give me a little over 5 WPG. Probably not quite enough huh.

Got my new set of VHO`s today so I now have 4 bulbs running. I have the actinic coming on at 9 AM and the 50/50 at 10 AM. The 50/50 will cut off at 8 PM and actinic at 9 PM. I might have to modify that the first few weeks so as to acclimate them to my tank. I also got me a squamosa Clam. I`ll have some pics tomorrow.

Melosu,

I think you may be able to pull off some of the hardier, more light intolerant SPS species with VHO's. A lot of established saltwater aquarium keepers use VHO's with good success and swear by them.

I would recommend anything in the Montipora species as a good starter. Montipora normally proves to be very hardy and fast growing even without Metal Halide light.

If you have good success with the Montipora then you could some Acro's or Pocillopora a shot.

One thing you could also try is ordering an Acro frag pack. Then you would get several different colored corals and could see what does well under your lighting system, rather then spending a lot on one large colony that doesn't thrive.

Awesome, Mike!! I think you'll be fine with some lower light sps like macman suggested.

Best of luck!
