so ive got a 20 long nano reef with a 30" coralife dual 65 watt light and a 24" 28 watt T5 light. This totals 158 watts which is pushing 8 watts per gallon. ive got zoos, red mushrooms, xenia, frogspawn, and some misc. small polyps, not to mention my sebae anemone. fish wise ive got a firefish and an ocellaris clown. ive also got a crap load of hermits, 3 emerald crabs, and a cleaner shrimp. im a little interested in putting a clam in there but am unsure as to what kind or even if my lights will support one. ive heard that as much as 12 watts per gallon may be needed. someone help me out.

First Josh I would like to welcome you to reefwise!!! I hope you find the information here helpful and accurate. I have kept a variety of T. Clams under power compacts and T5's and was always very successful. With 8 watts per gallon/ T-5 compact mix I think you would be fine.

I agree that 8 watts will be good. I have a squamosa clam and have a little over 5 wpg. With your 8 you should have enough even for some of the high light corals. Here is mine with VHO`s.

Phytoplankton is good. I usually feed some DT`s phyto. The lighting helps it alot also.
