Posted 06/08/2007 03:33:30 PM | | First off I am sure everyone is wondering, "what the heck is this today in the fish room" garbage. The goal with this portion of the forum is to give members a place to discuss and journal daily activities/etc with their aquariums. It also gives members a place to record and document ph variables, calcium, alkalinity and all that good stuff and leaves tank parameters and activity online so that other members can offer insight, suggestions, etc on what is going on with our aquariums. So to start a trend (hopefully) by example I'll begin a sample using my 120 gallon reef. By the way this would also be a great place to post a daily picture of your aquarium. Since my new camera stopped working and I had to take it back, (dont worry I ordered an even nicer one!) I wont have a pic.

Today in the fishroom...

120 gallon mixed reef aquarium
First this morning I removed the heater from my aquarium. With the room kept at 70 degrees via A/C the tank has been getting close to 78 degrees and I noticed for the past week the heater was un-plugged (I must have forgotten to plug it in) so I am thinking the tank doesn't really need a heater anyway.
I also opted for a change in light schedule today. I was leaving my actinic lamps lit for 12 hours a day and the daylight lamps lit for 10 hours. I cut the actinic lamps back to 10 hours per day and the daylight lamps down to 7. Hopefully that will discourage any green algae growth on the glass panels.
Ph tested out this morning at 8.18 - a slight drop from yesterday which was 8.27 but not enough to cause severe alarm. I had a nitrate incident and was under the impression my nitrates were over 50 ppm. I had ordered a Sailfert nitrate test kit and had not read the instructions telling you that you looked for the test's color from the vial's top not side. From the side the color looked almost deep red making me think I had a problem. I nearly panicked and grabbed the directions only to read that you looked from the top. Luckily that means my nitrates are down where they normally are.
I am planning a 37 gallon water change tonight and all the water has been cured in duel 20 gallon aquariums behind the main tank. This way I can just pop a Maxi-Jet 1200 in each and after the water is removed pump the new water right into the tank with no mess.
Feeding was as usual: Mysis Shrimp/Angel Diet/Cyclops in the morning followed with Spectrum pellets in the evening and DT's Phytoplankton for the Corals and Cylopeeze for the Corals/Fish in the evening.
